Coffee or Tea: Which is Healthier?

June 29, 2015

What you need to know:
Both coffee and tea contain virtually no calories when mixed with water. For many people the “straight” taste is too bitter or incomplete, so they must add sugar and/or cream. But the actual tea leaf or coffee bean is virtually calorie-less. With no fat, no sodium, and no carbs – where can you go wrong?

Both beverages have caffeine. Coffee has about twice as much as tea for a comparable cup of hot drink. Caffeine in reasonable amounts during the day (3 cups of coffee or six cups of tea) is considered healthy for most people, as it helps accelerate the metabolism. If you work out in the morning, a quick cuppa joe before your 2 mile jog will help you perform better.

Coffee has some B vitamins, potassium and other minerals. Tea is high in manganese, folate and potassium. Both add a bit of nutrient goodness to your daily mix.

The main reason tea has become so popular in health circles is the cancer-fighting antioxidants that green tea purports to provide our bodies.

So will it be a burning-hot espresso at 7am, or 4 o’clock Earl Grey?

As long as you stick to the basic liquid, seems like there is no need to choose sides here. Both these hot drinks are harmless in sane quantities throughout the day, and may even provide a few nutritional benefits to their fans.

If you’re adding sugar or artificial sweeteners, challenge yourself to gradually reduce the amount by half. From experience, you can go down from 2 teaspoons to 1 within a few weeks, and then down from one to none within a similar time frame. (This info- compliments of fooducate blog)

----------->> I'm working on a post for you all of some HEALTHY ALTERNATIVES to using creamer in your coffee! Stay tuned!

**What to do at the supermarket:
Take a look at the ingredient lists to make sure no surprise ingredients have been added to your coffee beans or your tea leaves.

I'd Love Your Input!

This is HARD for Me to Post But Here it Goes------> If This Inspires Even One Person, Then I've Done My Job.

June 29, 2015

This picture to the left was me in August of last year. I was out of shape, I was super stressed with my job and just felt bad about my body. All of the stress of my job had piled up and even though I was working out every day, I wasn't getting anywhere because my nutrition was TERRIBLE. I was using food as an emotional outlet and after it was all said and done, I lost all my confidence. I was not happy with myself or what I was doing career wise. I was questioning everything and searching for answers as to what to do next. I had been pondering the idea of coaching for over a year and in November of last year, I decided that ENOUGH WAS ENOUGH. I said GOODBYE to my full time stressful job and HELLO to my new life! I kept telling myself to just do it- take that chance- a chance to be HAPPY and do what I love to do best-----> giving and helping others. I started coaching full time and really starting putting myself and my nutrition first. I started prepping my meals and continued with my 30 min or more a day workouts and started drinking Shakeology daily. Day by day I started to get out of that funk and started feeling better.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->

The picture on the right is me today- STRESS FREE. See what stress can do to you?! I am very HAPPY and PROUD of what i'm doing now. I'm not yet at my goal body but I FEEL so much better! I found my confidence again! wink emoticon I can wear those small shorts I never wanted to wear last summer and those fun little summer dresses.

I now have what I consider the most important thing in life--->FREEDOM<--- I have a job where I'm my own boss and literally work from anywhere! It's freedom from having to answer to someone else and doing what I want to do when I want to do it. Working my BOOTY off to help someone else be successful is not for me. I am very OCD and put every ounce of energy I have in to what I do. I'm a #girlboss and PROUD of it! I LOVE the idea of being home with my kids when I have them and being present with them everyday while they are young.

I am also now able TO GIVE- it brings me great JOY. I want to be able to create a life of wealth so that I can help others by giving. This to me is what life is all about and what I live for. I'm on my way! I also love this business because as I am helping myself and my team succeed in making this business their full time jobs, I'm also helping SO MANY people by teaching them a healthy lifestyle as a PREVENTATIVE for sickness and disease which is a great gift to give! Amen?! smile emoticon

Snack/Protein Bars- Which Are Best for You and what to look for...

June 29, 2015

Do ever ask yourself which snack bars are best???

Here are some helpful tips- compliments of the Fooducate app.

How to Choose a Snack Bar:

There are many reasons for the success of bars:
Bars are very convenient foods. Individually wrapped, they can be thrown into your bag, kept in the glove compartment, locked in the office desk drawer, etc.
They taste good. That usually has to do with their high sugar content, which we'll get to in a minute.
It's relatively easy to manufacture bars. The ingredients mix well together, and the machinery required to produce rectangular shaped glop is fairly standard.
Bars have a long shelf life and require no refrigeration.
The problem with most bars is that they more closely resemble Snickers than they do a healthy fruit or nut combo.

What should I look for in a snack bar?
A relatively short and understandable ingredient list. It can be as short as: Almonds, dates, bananas. Some products list over 40 ingredients, many of them lab created. Stay away from such products.
Sugars from fruit. Many bars add 3 or more teaspoons worth of sugars in the form of evaporated cane juice, high fructose corn syrup, rice syrup, and honey. A little bit of added sugar is not the end of the world, but you need to be watchful.
Nuts and seeds. They are a great source of protein and healthy fats.
Whole grains. Bars made with oats, for example.

What about protein?
Americans get more than enough protein in their diet, so buying a bar that has been pumped up with soy and whey protein isolates makes no sense.

Is 200 calories too much for a bar?
Many dieters are enamored with the concept of 100-calorie snacks. Bar manufacturers have catered to this notion in several ways:
shrinking the bar size
using artificial sweeteners
limiting the use of healthy nuts and seeds because of their fat content
While a bar with 200 calories may seem excessive for a snack, what you should consider is the ingredient list. If the bar contains a mix of nuts and fruit, chances are it will keep you satiated for a longer period of time and help you avoid noshing again after 45 minutes.

What bars does Fooducate recommend?
A good bar is really a trail mix that has been pulverized to some degree. Making your own trail mix is simple and saves money. If you have some time on your hand, we recommend buying bulk quantities of your favorite nuts, seeds, and dried fruit and mixing them up. Pack them into individual Ziploc bags and you're set!

OK, but when I'm in a rush, what bar should I buy?
You can browse the bar category using your Fooducate app to see which bars we rate the highest.

Bottom line
Choose bars with a short, understandable ingredient list.

Homework
Grab your favorite bar (or look it up on the Fooducate app).

How many teaspoons of sugar does it contain? (Reminder: every 4 grams of sugar is 1 teaspoon).

Questions Specifically Designed to Help you Find Your Unexpressed Potential!

June 29, 2015

What in your life have YOU wanted so badly that you kept pushing and pushing for until it happened?! Discover who you truly are and fully give every aspect of your uniqueness to the world. This is your path to an extraordinary life!

YOU have a unique purpose. heart emoticon

Ask yourself these 6 powerful questions! We all have an unexpressed potential; these questions are specifically designed to help you find yours.

1. What do I absolutely love in life?
List anything that you love about the world and the people in your life. Think about any activities that get you excited and enthusiastic and make you feel most alive. This can be absolutely anything: music, sports, cooking, teaching others, learning, watching movies—anything. Within your love for these things lies deep passion.

2. What are my greatest accomplishments in life so far?
List all of the moments that you are proud of as well as the times that you’ve succeeded. To have accomplished these, you would have used some of your key strengths. See if you can identify why you succeeded. Also, list any activities, hobbies, or anything else that you do that you complete with ease. Within these lie greatest strengths.

3. What would I stand for if I knew no one would judge me?
List everything that you would do if you weren’t afraid, even your wildest dreams. This will help you discover your greatest values.

4. If my life had absolutely no limits and I could have it all and do whatever I wanted, what would I choose to have and what would I choose to do?
Describe your ideal lifestyle. List what you would do throughout the day if you knew that you were bound to be successful, what kind of person you would be, how much money you would earn, and where you would live.

This question allows you to realize who you would truly want to be if there were no limits. By aligning with this you can begin working towards the life that you truly want to create. Know that you wouldn’t have a desire if you didn’t also have the ability to fulfil it.

5. What would I do if I had one billion dollars?
List everything that you would really love to do if you had all the money in the world. Okay, so you would probably travel the world, buy a house or two, and give some money to your family. Then what would you do with your time?

This question helps you to think without limitations. When we are able to remove limitations and boundaries, we can discover what we really want to do.

6. Who do I admire most in the world?
List your greatest inspirations and the qualities that you admire about these people. Think about what really inspires you in this world. What you admire about others is also a quality that is in you. Know that you admire someone because they have similar qualities to you.

Taking the time to answer these question will change your life. The more that you can implement your passions, strengths, values, desires, and motivations into your days, the happier your life will become!

You can study to become a doctor, lawyer, teacher, or anything else, but this knowledge will only take you so far. Meanwhile, discovering the deep wisdom of self-knowledge will ensure that your life is far more meaningful and fulfilling. I’ve got a feeling that is what Einstein meant when he said “Information is not knowledge.”

The most valuable knowledge that you will ever discover is, and always will be, within.

Strive for Progress, Not Perfection...

June 29, 2015

A nice reminder to forget the number on the scale. Just worry about eating healthy and exercise! Celebrate those non scale victories! Measuring is key and pictures and we all know how our clothes fit tells it all! ;-)

Today, I want you to tell yourself: DON’T STRIVE FOR PERFECTION--STRIVE FOR PROGRESS...and celebrate your successes!!! Yes, goals are important, but It’s so easy to get caught up in what you wish your end results to be that you forget to celebrate your successes and appreciate your PROGRESS!

Remember: It’s the LITTLE, simple decisions YOU make each day that compound into your success. You brush your teeth everyday, right? If you skipped a day, you wouldn’t get cavities, but if you skipped months you just might!

Saying no to pizza, chocolate, or wine is a DECISION. It’s easy to say no, but it’s also easy NOT to say no. If you gave in once…you wouldn’t gain a ton of weight, but if you gave in consistently, you would.

Working out is also a decision. It’s easy to do, yet easy NOT to do. A week’s worth of workout may not show much progression….but, imagine your progress if you made your workouts a non-negotiable habit (like teeth brushing)...imagine how you’d look and feel a few months from now, 6 months, one year!!

Fit tip of the day: Do not skip meals and make sure you are eating something every 2-3 hours! Take almonds, low fat string cheese, boiled egg, carrots and hummus, etc. with you on the road so that you always have something healthy with you and are not tempted by convenience food. wink emoticon

Would You Like to Improve the Look and Feel of Your Skin?

June 29, 2015

What is one thing do you do for yourself that you believe keeps you feeling or looking young?

For me, it's these things daily: working out, watching my portions, drinking at least 8 glasses of water and my nutrient dense shake.

For my face, I use baby wash cloths because they are so soft. wink emoticon
I wash my face every night and I always use moisturizer on my face and body and I always, always, always look at the positive in life- I believe optimism is key! heart emoticon

This post was inspired by comments i've been getting lately on my age LOL…it's quite entertaining and fun! wink emoticon

------->For those who don't know me, how old do YOU think I am?

Sometimes the simplest little changes can improve your skin! Here are some tips:

1. GIRLS AND GUYS- Clean your cell phone daily. Contact acne is pretty easy to avoid.. clean whatever is touching your face. The best way to clean your phone is by taking a damp cloth and wiping it daily to remove any excess makeup, oil and sweat.

2. GIRLS- Clean your makeup brushes once a month. If you don't they can become a breading ground for bacteria.

3. GUYS AND GALS- Change your pillowcase more often. Changing your pillowcase every other night (sounds drastic) can be extremely beneficial to your skin. During sleep you sweat and and yes, sometimes drool. If you are a tosser... you are rubbing your face in the pillow which results in dead skin cell debris on your pillowcase. If you keep placing your pretty face there night after night without changing it you may be causing unnecessary breakouts.

4. GUYS AND GALS- Diet and eating habits is KEY to great skin! Our skin is the largest organ and everything we put into our bodies plays a role on how your skin looks and feels. If you are loading up on processed carbs, genetically modified unhealthy foods...chances are your skin is suffering. If you need help with your nutrition, reach out to me! I'd love to help!

5. DRINK LEMON WATER- everyday! It's SOOO good for you! See all the reasons why below!

DO YOU have an all natural regimen that you use to wash and moisturize your face that you LOVE? If so, I want to know!!! Share below!

Healthy Coffee Creamer and Substitutes

June 24, 2015

Have you ever read the ingredients in your coffee creamer from brands like Coffee-mate? Did you know the SECOND ingredient is CORN SYRUP?!?! Corn Syrup is known to add belly fat! Let's not even mention all the sugar in them and even worse, all the nasty artificial sweeteners in the "SUGAR FREE" creamers! If you drink this every day, you will gain weight! Solution? Find a brand out there that is actually decent like the one I use in this photo OR make your own! Trust me I have looked at the ingredient list on all of them! The good ones are hard to find! Here is a better option:

Homemade Non Dairy Peppermint Creamer
* One can of full fat organic coconut milk
* 1 tbs of pure peppermint extract
* 6 drops of all natural liquid stevia

Directions:
Mix all the ingredients together and you're done!
Place in the fridge and it will last up to two weeks.

For those of you who do not like peppermint, try these below!

Ingredients:
Start off with this basic recipe then add what flavor you want with it!
14oz sweetened non fat condensed milk
1 3/4 cup non fat half & half
Mix the ingredients together well. I like to add them to a mason jar and shake it quite a bit.
French Vanilla Creamer:
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Vanilla Bean Coffee Creamer
2 teaspoons vanilla bean paste (I have heard Beanilla powder is best)

Enjoy! You are doing your body a favor!!! ANOTHER POST COMING SOON with more HEALTHY creamer options! ;-) STAY TUNED!

To My Friends With Diabetes...

June 23, 2015

So, I just wanted to share something with ya'll! I met a girl today that also has type 1 Diabetes. She randomly messaged me and said that my doctor told her about me! My doctor asked her this morning what she had for breakfast and guess what she said?!?! Haha! Shakeology!!! She then told her about me and how I drink it too and gave her my name! She's such a nice person! We have a lot in common too! We were both diagnosed with Diabetes 5 years ago. smile emoticon I love connecting with people with Diabetes and discussing our issues & talking about things that work for us. It brings me such great joy helping other people and I look forward meeting many others like this sweetheart I met today! I'm not letting my disease get me down! It CAN'T hold me back! Thanks to a healthy diet and daily exercise, I CAN control it! I have learned to see my illness as a blessing. Since August 2013, I have been teaching this healthy lifestyle to those around me and to the people who have reached out to me for help. I feel it is my purpose in life and why I am here today. I look forward to helping MANY MANY MANY more people in the years to come and helping them better their lives in any way I can!

So to all of you out there who has Diabetes PLEASE take care of yourselves! Go to your doctor, learn what you can, eat good HEALTHY food! Your health always seems much more valuable after you lose it! As my favorite quote reads, "Take care of your body as it's the only place you have to live!"

PLEASE SHARE WITH SOMEONE YOU KNOW WHO'S TRYING TO KICK DIABETES IN THE BUTT!

Pay it Forward

June 23, 2015

So after all my recent travels, I have collected several toiletries for the homeless. I usually leave them in my car and hand them out as I see those in need but this year, I'm giving to my Aunt Kim as her church donates during the year! It's the little things…♥

What do you pay it forward?

Shout Out to Women Who Smile and Compliment Other Women

June 23, 2015

I wish more of us tried to #UPLIFT each other instead of trying to bring each other down to make themselves feel better. It's SO SAD! I see it all the time and my husband has even noticed too! Women need to stop judging other woman so much! It's ridiculous!!! If you are not happy with yourself, find a way to make your life BETTER! Let those women you are envious of#INSPIRE you instead of making you unhappy! Also, what's with all the rude women?! Can't ya just be NICE?! Please take a nice pill and be HAPPY! Goodness gracious! smile emoticon Did you know smiling can make you happy (even when you're not)? When you smile, the world smiles back!

We all have 24 hours in a day...you get to set YOUR #priorities and YOU are responsible for the outcome...make YOUR life one you are proud of and happy to live! Let's all come together as #WOMEN and #EMPOWER one another instead of competing with each other like little girls!

Are You An Emotional Eater? Read This!

June 23, 2015

ARE YOU GOING THROUGH SOMETHING IN YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW THAT IS HOLDING YOU BACK OR MAKING YOU AN EMOTIONAL EATER?!

WELL- LISTEN UP! Some tips from coach Whitehead here! smile emoticon

Let working out be your outlet! Don't let food be!!! Find other things to do with your time instead of running to the kitchen. Don't allow yourself to buy those bad junk foods. If they are in your home you will be tempted. It's not that you are not allowed those foods every now and then in small portions because you are!

REMEMBER, I teach a lifestyle change here- something you can stick with forever. My goal is not deprive you of the things you love but teach you to chose better options and watch your portions.

When stressed or worried, take it outside! Go for a jog, a bike ride, call a friend and meet and walk together, give yourself a pedicure, take a long bubble bath, dive into your favorite book! Anything to get your mind off of emotional eating! If you have a thought in your mind that you shouldn't eat that food, ask yourself if I would approve of it? Ask yourself if the food you are about to eat will help you fuel your body. Will it help to give you the results you are wanting so badly, if the answer is no, walk away. Look for something more nutritious and be happy that you made the better choice! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Post a photo of your goal body on your fridge and your favorite motivational quotes on your mirror so that when you wake up in the morning, you see them! Get your 30 min BB workout in each day-doesn't matter what the weather is-no need to go outside. Watch your nutrition, keep a food journal. There are food journal apps as well such as "My Fitness Pal"- great to help you stay on track and look up food info to help you make the best choices.

AND--------> DON'T FORGET TO FOOD PREP!!! EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO KEEP YOU ON TRACK! wink emoticon

~~~~I have a FREE 5 day nutritional group starting this coming Monday and if you feel like you need help on healthy eating, food prep and new healthy recipes and my help----> Post below or message me!
My Favorite Store Bought Sauce
June 23, 2015
This is BY FAR my favorite sauce when you're in a hurry and don't have time to make your own fresh stuff!!! It has half the calories and carbs of all the other ones you'll find on the shelf at Publix and it tastes AMAZING and has a kick to it!!! It's not the most expensive either!! Highly recommended with zucchini pasta!!! YUM!!!
Buon appetito!
Hello! I'm Stacy and this is "Stacy's Slice of Life"! Thank you for visiting!
June 23, 2015
Hi ya'll! I'm Stacy. Thank you for checking out my new blog! I wanted to share something about my life that I struggle with every day- TYPE 1 DIABETES.
As a person with type 1 Diabetes, I have had a Dexcom reader for a couple of years now. Before I got this device, I was  a bit apprehensive of it and how it would work for me and was pretty sure I wouldn't like having something attached to me at all times. The day I got it and attached it and set it up and cried all day. I didn't like having the device attached to me even though it was wireless and was going to help me. -------> Fast forward to today! My husband and I are totally dependent on it! We are both IN LOVE with this small piece of machinery as it simplifies everything! It tells us when my blood sugar is rising and lowering and alerts us when it's out of range! I am able to download my results after 2 weeks and send them to my doctor for her review and allows her to adjust my insulin! Since I have had the reader, I am able to sleep better at night knowing that my alarm will go off if my blood sugar gets out of range and I can take action before it gets out of control. I LOVE that I can workout and keep a close eye on my numbers! What an amazing piece of technology! After having one, I don't know what I would do without it! I would recommend this to anyone with Diabetes! I am so THANKFUL for diabetes research and the good things to come!
Do you have Diabetes or know someone who does? Please ask them to read this post. This little device has been a lifesaver for me and has decreased my A1C over 3 points! I am now in healthy range to get pregnant due to this awesome continuous glucose meter!!! What a blessing!!!
If you have any questions, please reach out to me!!! i'm happy to answer any questions about Dexcom and am happy to help!!! <3
