I've recently switched careers, but being in the health and fitness industry for almost 4 years, people are still asking for help and suggestions for weight loss and nutrition. It's still a way of life for me. Being outdoors and being active keeps me happy and healthy. Honestly, it's REALLY all about lifestyle and eating whole, nutritious foods and moving daily. And, yes, the occasional treat (including wine) in moderation because life's WAY tooooo short not to! As a type 1 diabetic, I find cutting out as much sugar as possible is SO helpful and honestly after about a week or two, I just stopped craving sweet things. Sugar is VERY addictive I have found and the more you eat it, the more your body craves it and don't EVEN get me started about artificial sweeteners! YIKES! NO GOOD FOR YOU AT ALL!
.
If you are looking to drop weight quickly, what works BEST for me is adding a veggie into every meal or a green juice daily and staying away from ALL bread, rice and pasta all together along with decreasing your sugar intake and add in an additional 30 mins of cardio into your day. I cut out milk completely and ONLY drink unsweetened almond milk, Instead of pasta, try using zucchini and when at a restaurant, ask them to not bring any bread to your table and ask for half your meal to go. I always try to drink a full glass of water before my meal. Sometimes when you think you're hungry, it's just that you are dehydrated and it also helps calm your appetite. ❤
Either way- Invest in yourself. There are so many things in life we cannot control, so make sure you take care of what you have been freely given. Your body, your health and the people around you. Invest wisely. And if wellness is something that you think is "too expensive"... you should research the cost of illness.
Here are some documents I gave my clients that you may find helpful!
Seasoning Suggestions: Eating healthy does NOT mean you have to eat bland yucky food OR get bored! It's all about the seasonings! Here are some suggestions to use throughout the week.
1) Sriracha (Super spicy!) ...add to add eggs, rice or meat
3) Mrs Dash ***SALT FREE*** seasoning
4) Mustard (add to chicken!)
5) Liquid Smoke (I cook my chicken and ground turkey with this)
6) CINNAMON Great to add to my oatmeal. I like to sprinkle this on my sweet potato too!!
7) Balsamic Vinaigrette (salads)
π Liquid Aminos (I add this to my veggies while cooking. Just use a tsp or so)
9) Black Pepper...put this on everything
10) Himalayan Salt. Use sparingly
NOTE: I do not use Mrs Dash, we use all organic spices and herbs
I like the ALL Seasoning by Simply Organic
We choose organic whenever possible ESPECIALLY for all MEATS!
PS. Anytime you would use butter...Try COCONUT OIL!!
As far as fitting in MORE movement in your day, did you know that sitting all day increases your risk of heart disease & Cancer? Be sure to squeeze in movement AT LEAST ONCE every hour! Here are some tips to start incorporating into your day as you can!
-Get up and walk around or pace every time you get on the phone.
-Walk to your co-worker's desk or office instead of emailing or calling to ask or answer a question.
-Consider buying a walking desk and use it to answer all of your emails...I use my treadmill and bought a shelf which I velcro'd it right on there this way I can remove it when i want to run! ;-)
-Stand up when people come into your office. It's nice manners too! :-)
-Grab a drink from the water cooler! Haha! A full bladder will make you get up all day to use the loo!
-Take the stairs when possible.
-Do 30 heel raises or squats whenever you feel you need a quick break.
